Bad Behavior: Taking Too Many ‘Make-Ups’

By Editha Supangkat

In this very-naughty-Junior High, before students attend daily tests or quizzes, some people always ask “Is there a make up test?” or “Please give us a make-up test sir/miss. Pleeeeaaaseee….”. When the teacher(s) say(s) no, there’s a riot. In my experience, even after taking make up tests, there’s usually no difference of the marks, before or after. In many cases, the PB or “perbaikan” as we call it can change into “PerBurukan. In my opinion, taking make up test is completely useless.
There are many reasons why ‘make-ups’ are a horrible thing. These reasons include:
• Wasting time by studying twice and attend the make up in break time when we should do other stuff such as eating and making projects.
• The mark for the make up can be worse than the initial test.
• We can rely too heavily on these second-chances while in the real world, the one we will face when we leave school, second-chances are very, very rare.
• If we know that there’s a make up for a certain test, we tend to ‘avoid’ studying for the first test because in our minds, we think “Oo don’t worry, there’s another test, if I get a bad mark I can take the other one to improve it.
With all those reasons, I stay clear of the bad ‘cosmetics’ that can ruin our lives, whether you realize it or not. I hope y’ all steer clear of those baddies…

I would agree to some extent of this blog, but make up tests are not necessarily a bad thing, if you take it wisely.

It is true, yes; time-wasting, negatively dependent, and a chance of getting lower marks.

However, if St. Laurensia students are wise enough, they should not put themselves on a risky situation at the first place.

If you study well before the Big Day, then you are confident that you will get good marks too. If you dependent on make up tests, then you risk your chance to get better marks, because whatever it takes, teachers are not the same. There would be easy-markers teacher that give make up tests quite easily, but there's also hard-markers who won't give any second chance for the students. So, where are you putting your situation?

Time wasting... yes, because you need to study twice, as Editha said. But if you get lower marks than the first, then you are dumb. Twice the chance! If you ever heard about the monkey jokes, about a monkey who was fooled by a guy, then the second time after years later, the guy's son try to fool the monkey's son but he failed, it's kinda like that. So, you are worse than monkeys! Lol. No offense.

For me personally, though, make up tests are aids to get better achievements. Put it this way; when I was in Laurensia and whatever teacher was giving out a test that he had never taught us before, I got 30%. Son of a bitch! Sort your life, teacher! But whatever, he arranged a make up test that the whole grade 8 attend. Less than five people out of 130+ students at Laurensia did not attend this make up test. So, necessary at particular occasions? YES!

As I said earlier, again, make up tests are not necessarily a bad thing. It depends of how wise you use it, and never rely your tests onto that. You understand the risks, you're good. Study well, and there you go!

Study a lot won't help if the teacher is gay, giving random questions he never taught before. Happens A LOT in Indonesia.
